What is a Subfloor?
Unless your home has a concrete first floor (slab), most floors are constructed of three layers., Together, they should create a beautiful, solid & quiet floor:
• Supports (called joists) that support the subfloor – normally wood.
• Subfloor - Normally plywood – supports the finished floor
• Finished layer - Typical finished floorings are hardwoods, tiles, vinyl and carpet.
Repairing your Subfloor
The normal causes of subfloor problems (defects) are water leaks, termites and age. Replacing the defective wood is the corrective action required. Our expert technicians have extensive experience repairing subfloor damage.
The cause of squeaky floors occurs when the subflooring loosens from the supports (joists). When the bond between the subfloor and the joist is loose, the rubbing between the two flooring pieces causes an annoying squeaking. We correct squeaky floors by removing the finished layer, and then tightening and securing the bond between the subfloor and its supports.
